Zero-broadening measurement in Brillouin based slow-light delays.
A novel method for the achievement of zero-broadening in a SBS based slow-light system is discussed in theory and demonstrated experimentally. The system is realized just with a single broadened Brillouin gain. It is shown, that if the gain bandwidth is much broader than the initial pulse width, the output pulse width decreases with increasing pump power. A compression of approximately 90 % of ...
متن کاملAnalytical expression of pulse broadening in an arbitrary linear slow light medium.
We derive an analytical expression for the broadening of a Gaussian input pulse in an arbitrary linear slow light medium. The expression consists of two terms, one corresponding to amplitude broadening (low-pass filtering of the pulse bandwidth) and another corresponding to phase broadening (phase dispersion around the resonance). It is shown that for a Lorentzian gain profile, the amplitude br...
متن کاملWide-bandwidth, tunable, multiple-pulse-width optical delays using slow light in cesium vapor.
We demonstrate an all-optical delay line in hot cesium vapor that tunably delays 275 ps input pulses up to 6.8 ns and 740 input ps pulses up to 59 ns (group index of approximately 200) with little pulse distortion. The delay is made tunable with a fast reconfiguration time (hundreds of ns) by optically pumping out of the atomic ground states.
متن کاملDistortion management in slow-light pulse delay.
We describe a methodology to maximize slow-light pulse delay subject to a constraint on the allowable pulse distortion. We show that optimizing over a larger number of physical variables can increase the distortion-constrained delay. We demonstrate these concepts by comparing the optimum slow-light pulse delay achievable using a single Lorentzian gain line with that achievable using a pair of c...
متن کاملComplete compensation of pulse broadening in an amplifier-based slow light system using a nonlinear regeneration element.
We experimentally demonstrate complete compensation of pulse broadening in an amplifier-based slow light system. The configuration of the delay line basically consists of two stages: a conventional Brillouin slow light system and a nonlinear regeneration element. Signal pulses experienced both time delay and temporal broadening through the Brillouin delay line and then the delayed pulses were d...
